On January 29, 1954, American talk show host, actress, producer, and media proprietor Oprah Gail Winfrey was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi. In 1971, Winfrey enrolled at Tennessee State University, where she earned her degree in communication and started her career in radio and television broadcasting in Nashville. In 1976, she landed her first position as the host of the television program People Are Talking.

Commonly referred to as the “Queen of Media”, Winfrey has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment, including TV personality Ellen Degeneres, a well-known host in the business.
